Three weeks later, executives from the studio contacted Rock to arrange a meeting with seasoned ‘Saw’ co-producers Mark Burg and Oren Koules. “I spent a lot of the meeting trying to persuade them that I didn’t want to film ‘Scary Movie,’” the comic adds. “I didn’t want to do a broad comedy,” says the director. ‘Spiral,’ a spin-off of the popular and profitable ‘Saw’ horror movie, has a tone that is more akin to a police procedural than the gruesome torture porn that the series has evolved into over eight films and 17 years. As a detective on the lookout for a serial killer who is targeting cops in a corrupt police agency, rock stars play detectives. Max Minghella plays his rookie partner while Samuel L.
